Well this one you can get lost in if you read it and look at all the angles of the piece. First you have to look what the body is about and that is the accent up into heaven which is beautiful in its own right, but the poem only shows a day dream of it and no actions taken to attain that goal. The person starts on alone by a tree and the river bank and looking into the sky and dreaming but this mother nature is the one taking him these thoughts, (this happens to me because I think the beauty are signs) but it could also been seen as pagan. Using worldly thoughts won’t get you far in real life, it will make you try to hold onto life longer. You could also see the tree and the rivers now neglected as symbols as the opposite of the worldly goods i.e. the dodge. Either way the title of the poem has to have you think about what’s really going on sweet perdition. I could see it being ironic as perdition being hell but the opposite of that being sweet, so sweet perdition would be heaven, but also as the poem develops and the soul is feeling heaven and it is brought back to the world by the scene being taken away from the river and tree to the body and the dodge, and I could see someone imagining heaven and then realizing they were alive and find comfort in their body and car because it is the way to identify their existence but I believe in reality these aren’t the important things but actions to please Allah are, so the sweet perdition could be the feeling of self and worthiness in things that really won’t get you the sweet perdition as in the opposite of perdition i.e. heaven. So I guess the poem is good to make you think about stuff. MashAllah.
